I am delighted to be able to finally say we have a luxury condo in Coral Gables…. and its name is Giralda Place.

As a Gables centric-agent I spend an awful lot of time in the Gables, going for dinner at Masa Mer, which is arguably one of the best seafood restaurants in Miami, or Zucca which is owned by the old chef of Casa Tua who set up his own place. Aside from that there is the part of Giralda Ave, which is now pedestrianized and a Friday night stroll down the street with its easy going and rather chilled out ‘european vibe’ alfresco dining aplenty is really really great. There are lots of cool shops and to be honest, it is just damn well pretty! Traditionally, the Gables is home to single family properties and honestly some of the most glamorous and extensive estates you will find anywhere in Miami. So it has typically come as a surprise that there have been no luxury condos. The city is old (not by European standards) but by Miami standards it is. So why no new luxury condos? Mainly, because the city is extremely protective over what they allow to be built. Zoning is tight and there are no air-rights to built very high Condos.

Let me caveat the description of luxury for you before we discuss the finer points.

In no specific order: Firstly, views. Now, Coral Gables does not sit on the water (obviously) but that does not mean you cannot have great city views (especially if the city is as pretty as the Gables is). Secondly, fundamental architectural features, and yes, I am talking about door heights, ipso factor ceiling heights. Third, finishes e.g. Zubzero and Wolf as opposed to GE, Monogram, Philips or Whirlpool. Fourth, the location (maybe I should have put this first). I don’t care how nice your building is, if the neighborhood sucks you are not going to be considered luxury. Location, location, location. Gables has a large element of luxury to the neighborhood – end of story! Finally, we have service: Concierge, valet, private elevators.
