So it’s known as the ‘City Beautiful’ and that’s no wonder with its manicured streets and Golf Courses, historic buildings and majestic town center. Coral Gables holds the No1 spot for wealthy Single family buying on the ‘mainland’ in Miami Dade. Home to some of the most expensive homes in the most exclusive waterfront and gated communities, Coral Gables residents enjoy typically bigger lots than its equally desirable neighbor ‘Coconut Grove’.
The Gables is in fact by our reckoning 6 districts which offer a very varied selection of homes. Homes that will suite the first time home buyer (and their budgets) up to the palatial estates owned by Fortune 500 CEO’s and Execs which can routinely top $10M++. It has some of the best private schools in the state and is physically very impressive; an array of beautiful waterways both to the East and West of US1. It is also home to a number of top level Golf Courses: Granada, Riviera and the well know Biltmore. Sidewalks and beautiful tree lined streets, this is a far cry from the hectic atmosphere of South Beach.
Coral Gables is where I personally live (and while I have also lived in Coconut Grove and Brickell, which I have also enjoyed), so let me give you some local knowledge with these quick fire questions and answers!
The residential crowd is made up of…
Old Spanish homes, New(er) Key West Island Homes, Ranch Style homes from the 50’s and 60’s as well as smaller Old Spanish bungalows and Villas for entry level families. Mid range you will also find a number of Mediterranean homes.
The Average Home price…
Home prices range from $1m to $6m. The midrange home prices are between $1.5m and $2m. Check out our analytics page for specifics or our latest Coral Gables Report. Waterfront homes start from a little under $2m and can extend up to $25m for direct waterfront estates found in gated communities.
What are considered the ‘most desirable’ streets in Coral Gables…
Depending on the district you are in, unsurprisingly homes around the various Golf Courses (Santa Maria, Alhambra Cir) as well as Canal Front (Riviera and Granada) are very desirable. In addition streets inside exclusive gated communities are also very desirable: Tahiti Beach Island Dr inside Tahiti Beach. Arvida Parkway inside Gables Estates. Snapper Creek Rd inside the gated community of Snapper Creek. (Click on any of these communities listed on the right hand side for more information and homes for sale).
What are the best gated communities in Coral Gables….
In my opinion: Cocoplum, Tahiti Beach, Gables Estates, Journeys End, Snapper Creek. Hammock Oaks is also beautiful. (Click on any of these communities listed on the right hand side for more information and homes for sale).
Best short distance getaway…
Key Largo – just one hour away by car. If you want to fly; Nizuc resort Mexico. Just an hour flight. Breakfast in the Gables and lunch on the beach in Mexico – perfect! Boat: Bimini of course which is just 2 hours away!
The best spot to fancy dine…
We love Zucca at the St Pierre Hotel. You have to have the salt crusted seabass! Also Mesa Mare on Giralda Ave;great seafood. For Casual: Hillstones! It’s quite a scene on a Friday evening. The great thing about Miami is that new restaurants open all the time. For take out: P-Pole Pizza, but be careful it’s very addictive!
The Best Shopping is….
Merrick Park of course. Every designer brand you can think of, plus it has an Equinox, great cinema and a huge array of al fresco dining.
The Best Schools are…
So many to choose from: Riviera, St Thomas, St Philips. For ‘little ones’ under 4 we adore Key Point academy. The Gables is also 10 mins to Ransom, Carollton (located in neighboring Grove) and Gulliver and Palmer Trinity high schools which are 20 mins to the south in Pinecrest.
